150 murals, 13 provinces and territories, 1 love: Canada. Four of the murals will be created by young students in Toronto. The purpose of the murals is to express various aspects/themes that best represent Canada. These murals will then be collected and displayed throughout the Toronto's subway stations and buses. The subject of two of the murals I am contributing to are Diversity and Fall Colours. The artist facilitator and myself discussed the meaning of diversity and how it is beyond just the differences between races and culture. What we wanted to sway away from was ending up with a mural of people with different skin tones holding hands in a circle. Extremely cliché and shallow thinking. For our Fall Colour topic, some of us thought of the idea "falling into fall" as one concept. Through open discussion and open-ended questions, we were able to combine different aspects of what we all liked in a mural and began our first drafts. We hope to continue to elaborate and edit out drafts then start to paint the following week.
