Beat of Your Own Drum: Drum Making

If I had to choose between creating a hand-made African drum or rocket science; I would definitely choose rocket science. With the sanding, designing, craving, waxing, weaving, tying, cutting the animal skin, placing it, skinning it, and more tying, it was one easily one of the most challenging and fun experiences I have had!

One of the great benefits that Vibe Arts provides for schools and communities is the authenticity of the artists and the knowledge & experience they are able to share with the community. No matter how much research and practice an educator does, it will never be equivalent to the years of mastery that an artist can offer. These artists live and breath in their art, so to have that sense of passion and wisdom certainly changes the dynamic of a typical classroom activity.
