Fraser Mustard Academy for Early Years
PARENT FAMILY LITERACY CENTRE
As a part of a Special Project, I created and organized a Family Festival for the Fraser Mustard community. This included games, activities, and tasting! Each station's objectivies were based off of a survey taken by the families indicating what sort of skills and goals they wanted for their children. It ranged from simple literacy skills to teamwork and friendship building. It was a remarkable time and later that year I was invited to a second Family Festival that they have adapted and made into their own.
ACTIVITies
Through my experience at the Reggio-inspired Fraser Mustard Early Years Academy, I was honoured to be a part of this shift in traditional teaching approaches. Having the chance to witness the atelier was one of the most extraordinary experiences I have had as an aspiring educator, as a result, this placement made me realize my true passion for Reggio-inspired work with children, their families and their relationship to their environment/community.
After walking around in the area and through the community garden, collecting interesting items, the families then sorted their loot and created collages.
Using a revised recipe of play-dough, the families followed a new recipe to make sticky, gooey slime!
