LISTENED AND DISCUSSED CURRENT ISSUES THAT AFFECT THE CANADIAN INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES AND STRATEGIES TO REBUILD THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT.

THE CANADIAN CIVIL LIBERTIES ASSOCIATION'S DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION WAS INVITED TO TALK ABOUT OUR RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS AND HOW TO PROTECT & ADVOCATE FOR THEM.
-Action Plan Project
THE STUDENTS' FINAL PROJECT WAS TO SELECT AN ISSUE RELATED TO INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES BASED ON THE TOPICS THAT WERE DISCUSSED IN THE UNIT. STUDENTS ARE THEN ALLOWED TO PRESENT THEIR ISSUE AND THEIR ACTION PLAN TO SOLVE THE ISSUES IN ANY FORMAT THEY DESIRE.
Grade 5/6 Cross-curricular Art/Math Architect Activity
THESE ARCHITECT/STUDENTS WERE RANDOMLY ASSIGNED CLIENT PROFILES WITH SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS & REQUESTS. STUDENTS NEEDED TO DESIGN A HOME BEST SUITED FOR THEIR CLIENTS; VINCENT SALVADOR, CUPID, LAMAR LAROSEN, JORDAN RAMSEY, AND COACH CASSIE.
Grade 5/6 Art's Artist Hall of Fame Unit included:
-Weekly focus on famous artists
ARTISTS INCLUDE; FRIDA KAHLO, JEAN-MICHAL BASQUIAT, VINCENT VAN GOGH, AND SALVADOR DALI
-Community-building and Truth & Reconciliation
THE STUDENTS STUDIED THE SEVEN GRANDFATHER TEACHINGS, THE STORY OF THE OJIBWAY ARTIST NORVAL MORRISSEAU, AND HOW THEY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR CLASSROOM COMMUNITY.
